SUB-THEME 1: FINITE RESOURCES

As the world’s population is growing at a startling rate, our finite landscape and natural resources are diminishing fast. How can the planning and design of our landscape spaces sustain these finite resources for better future living condition and environment?

HIN BUS DEPOT, GEORGE TOWN

Hin Bus Depot is a creative community hub in George Town. Home to a gallery, arts & events spaces and creative business outlets, the art depot is working towards a sustainable community and providing a platform for artistic execution.

SUB-THEME 2: TRANSIENT LIVING

The advancement of Internet of Things (IOT) has change many aspects of our life. The way we work, communicate, socialise, and play are different from the past decades. How can landscapes co-exist or complement this transient living environment where IOT is an integral part of our day-to-day life, now and the future?

BANGUNAN UAB, GEORGE TOWN

The UAB Building was erected in the 1930s, in the Art Deco style. It is one of two buildings flanking the Victoria Street junction of China Street Ghaut of the same design. The UAB Building was occupied by the Indian Overseas Bank which opened in Penang in July 1937. It was the first overseas branch of the bank which was founded less than a year earlier, in November 1936.

SUB-THEME 3: HOMOGENOUS CULTURE & DIVERSE POPULATION

Globalisation and the advancement of transportation system and connectivity render our cities’ population to be more diverse in ethnicity, religion, nationality, ability and thinking. As landscape spaces are usually “public” in nature, how could the planning and designing of our landscape spaces cater to these diverse demands, needs and preferences?

LOFT 29, GEORGE TOWN

Located in Lebuh Gereja (Church Street), one of the earliest streets in George Town, Loft 29 used to be the warehouse of an office supply company. Today, it’s an industrial aesthetic - think bare brick walls and vast open space - makes it one of the coolest spots to hold everything from a concert to a wedding or conference.

SUB-THEME 4: NATURAL DISASTER : EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED

The effect of global warming that we are experiencing now causing the lost of biodiversity and extinction of wildlife. How does landscape architecture practice helps to reduce natural disaster occurrences? Do we have new methods, approaches, techniques and skills?
